Ugh! Another how to! Do these “how tos” ever stop? Digital marketing is a world on its own – it has its own “how tos”, “what tos”, “when tos” and so on. Some of these things are a walk in the park, the others are more like a long trip in the park.

Finding new keywords is one of the easiest things to do in SEO. Here’s how to get it out of the way without much hassle.

Ubersuggest

Ubersuggest is a free keyword suggestion tool that generates hundreds of alphabetically sorted keywords

With Ubersuggest, you’d see Cost Per Click (CPC), volume, competition, and seasonal trends for every keyword.

The free keyword research tool also reveals to you the keywords for the top-performing competitors, their traffic, social shares and even domain authorities.

Here’s how it works:

Download the Ubersuggest chrome extension or go to the Ubersuggest site and enter the seed, or main keyword in the search box. Your seed keyword is your foundation for finding the perfect supplementary keywords. Set the target language and your country.

Make sure the keyword you use is one that is most relevant for your business – you know, something that prospective clients are likely to search for. For instance, “digital marketing.”

After entering the seed keyword and clicking “search”, what Ubersuggest does is to generate a list of suggested keywords from Google’s suggest algorithm.

On the right side of your screen, you’d see the Google SERP (Search Engine Results Pages) for your keyword. You want to pay close attention to the Google SERP section because with it Ubersuggest gives you a quick analysis of what’s displayed on the first page of Google.

In the SERP section, you’d see the top-performing sites for that keyword and you can review your competitor’s domain name.

Click on any of the sites that rank and you’d be sent to the Traffic Analyzer tool where you’d spot the top keywords your competitor ranks for by SEO difficulty, volume, estimated visits and position in the SERP. Doing this would provide you with ideas of what keywords are worth using.

Another thing you can do is to use Ubersuggest filters. Ubersuggest filters help organize suggested keywords and also make your keyword research more effective.

Cost Per Click (CPC)

Since you’d be working with a budget, set the maximum CPC you’re willing to pay (e.g. $30).

Search volume

Set your minimum search volume per month. For example, 2000 or 3000. The higher the volume, the better.

Paid difficulty

What this filter does is to show you keywords with paid difficulty under a particular number (e.g. 40, 50)

SEO difficulty

It is advisable to ask Ubersuggest for keywords with SEO difficulty less than 50

Include keywords

You can add extra keywords you want to use

Exclude keywords

With this you can filter out keywords that are irrelevant to your business.

After setting these, click apply, and you’d see a more streamlined and useful results of keywords

And finally, in choosing the right keywords choose the ones that have

  • Great CPC
  • Medium/high search volume
  • Low/medium SEO difficulty

Don’t let poor keywords be the reason why you are not seeing ROI – get the keywords that work by analyzing your competitor’s keywords or using Ubersuggest filters.

Here’s a tip

Go ahead to create compelling content around your list of keywords, and remember to keep a natural flow of text and not to “overstuff”
